Born in Kirkwall Orkney in 1967 i first became interested in radio in the early 80's as the film "CONVOY" hit the big screens in the UK.  Pestering my parents persistantly for weeks after the movie finally payed off,and i recieved a small 40 channel AM CB Radio for a Christmas present. That was the radio bug started and along with many friends and now Fellow "Hams" it was a race home from school each night to get a clear channel and start chatting.

Due to my work at sea it was a very long time before i eventually got around to getting my HAM licence but in August 2003 thanks to a change in the examination structure here in the UK, and to an unfortunate accident in an arm wrestling contest where i found myself of work for 6 months with a broken arm! i recieved my MM3EAX callsign (thanks to my good friend MM5DWW who put me through the exam.)

Immediately after recieving my licence i was on the air with a 9 band vertical, although limited to 10watts and no privelages on 10meters i found my little antenna worked very well from my qth as my back garden is on the seashore i took advantage of this and got the antenna as close to the sea as possible.

I took the last RAE in December 2003 and in January 2004 recieved my present callsign MM0EAX. After loseing the small vertical to a storm, and with help from GM3POI who helped design a more substantial antenna, i started to concentrate more on the 40/80m bands. The pictures below show my antenna at high water!

I enjoy working dx and contesting, at present i am in the process of relocating my station and hopefully the final result will be a modestly competative contest station located on a hill top near to my home qth. As this station develops i will be updating this pages with more photographs etc so please check back from time to time to follow my progress.

40/80m vertical at high water looking East over the bay of Firth

Here you can see the top loading and the inverted L wire to the left coming at right angles toward the house. This antenna worked extremely well on both 40m and 80m. On my first attempt at the CDXC "LF Challenge" i won 1st place 80m working more than 100 DXCC's on SSB in the month of March 2005!

Special thanks to GM3POI Clive, MM0MSS Mark, MM0SJH Steve and MM5DWW David. Without these gentlemen's advice, knowledge and assistance this project would never have got off the ground!
